What does game volatility mean?
How frequent and how big the wins are. Low = many small wins, high = rare but big. RTP can be identical across volatility levels.
Definition
Volatility (also called variance) describes the shape of a game's win distribution:
- Low volatility — frequent, small wins. Predictable session-by-session swings.
- Medium volatility — balanced. Most modern slots.
- High volatility — rare wins, but when they hit, they're huge. Long dry spells punctuated by 100×–10,000× hits.
Crucially: volatility is independent of RTP. A 96% RTP low-volatility slot returns the same long-run as a 96% RTP high-volatility slot — the path to that average is just very different.
Practical session impact
A $1 bet on:
- Low volatility slot: most spins return $0–$2. You'll see your balance gently bob around the starting point. Sessions feel safe but rarely produce highlight wins.
- High volatility slot: most spins return $0. Periodic spins return $0.50–$5. Roughly 1 in 1,000 spins returns $50–$5,000. Long sessions feel like waiting; the wins, when they come, are memorable.
How to find a slot's volatility
Each game's detail page shows the developer-rated volatility on a 1–5 scale:
- ⭐ Low
- ⭐⭐ Medium-low
- ⭐⭐⭐ Medium
- ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Medium-high
- ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ High
We also display the hit frequency (% of spins that return any win, even sub-stake) and the max-win multiplier.
Picking volatility for your bankroll
Rough rule:
- Bankroll < 50× your bet size: stick to low or medium-low volatility. High volatility will eat the bankroll before a hit lands.
- Bankroll 50–200× your bet size: medium volatility comfortably.
- Bankroll > 500× your bet size: any volatility is fine, including high.
Adjust your bet size, not your game choice. A 50× bankroll on a high-volatility slot becomes a 500× bankroll if you bet ten times smaller.
Originals' volatility
Cinoslots Originals (Crash, Plinko, Mines, Limbo) let you choose your own volatility on the fly:
- Crash: lower cashout target = lower volatility
- Plinko: row count + risk band slider — pick low/medium/high
- Mines: more mines = higher volatility per cell
- Limbo: target multiplier directly controls volatility
This makes them flexible across bankroll sizes.
Volatility ≠ "fairness"
A high volatility game is not "less fair" — it's just shaped differently. RTP audits cover both low and high volatility games equally.

What is RTP and how is it calculated?
Return To Player — the long-run % of bets paid back to players. A 96% RTP slot returns $96 per $100 wagered over millions of spins.
Is there a maximum win amount on a single spin?
Yes — caps vary by game. Most modern slots cap at 5,000–25,000× stake; Cinoslots Originals have no cap; live tables have table-specific caps.
How does provably fair gaming work?
Server seed + your client seed + nonce = SHA-256 hash. You can verify every result was determined before you bet.
